Florida 2014

My family took a road trip during the winter of 2013-2014. We left the day after Christmas 2013, and spent New Years in Florida.

We stayed in a hotel outside of Fort Lauderdale, and got to enjoy the beach and the surrounding area. I had received a Penny board for Christmas (they’re awesome!), and I enjoyed learning to ride it through the parking lots of the Fort Lauderdale beach. Almost got run over a few times, but you know, that’s life.

We drove down to Florida City one day to visit the Everglades Alligator Farm, where yours truly got to hold a baby alligator (and lose her hat). There we also heard a parrot talk, and saw men risk their lives among the gators.

We took an airboat through the swamps, and got to see the alligators up close. The man driving the boat was sitting up high, and he told us that if an alligator happened to climb onto the boat we would be safest by jumping into the water. Very funny. Before getting on the boat, we had received these special headphones we were supposed to wear because the boat’s engine was very, very loud. They told us to take off our hats and sunglasses, because  the boat would be going at high speeds, and they were liable to fly off. I didn’t listen and stuck the headphones on top of my hat. Of course, the wind ripped it off and into the swamp, and now I was not only hatless, but headphone-less as well. My fault, obviously, and now I suffered the consequences of my decision.

Getting bored of the beach, we drove down to Miami to spend the day there on New Year’s Eve, but a sudden storm drove us back to our hotel, where we hung out by the pool, enjoyed a New Year’s Eve dinner, and then went to bed, knowing that the ride home the next day would be exhausting.
