After being in Ususău for a couple days, we left to spend some time with my aunt and uncle in Arad.
There we visited the piata and, as my sister requested, went shopping for cheese.
After church on Sunday, we visited downtown Arad, and got to see the musical fountain (again). We also took a walk along the river, and ate McDonalds ice cream (which is way better than its American counterpart).
The next day we took a road trip to Moneasa, which is around 2 hours from Arad. Moneasa is a pretty little town situated at the foot of the Codru-Moma Mountains. We spent the day there, exploring the town and the forest surrounding it, where we had a nice picnic.
We found some ruins and explored them. The lake had lily pads, which my uncle and sister examined.
On our way home, we stopped by Paulian, where one of my uncle’s cousins lived. We stopped by for a chat, and then continued on our way back to Arad.
The next day my sister could be found up on the roof of my uncle’s house, working construction with my cousin. My cousin had hired one of my sister’s new friends from Ususău to help him out, and she enjoyed hanging out with them.
We headed to Lipova the next day for the Sfânta Maria festival, which is held there every year. We visited the monastery, which was under construction on the exterior. but still open inside.
During Sfânta Maria, there’s a special sort of candy that is sold, which we all enjoyed tremendously. I bought a lot to bring home to the US, because I know how much my family enjoys it.
The next day we headed back to Pancota, for my cousin’s baptism. The whole family got together to celebrate that Sunday, and we headed back to Ususău for our last few days in the country.
Monday we helped a neighbor with their potato harvest. It was hard work, but we picked them all.
Three days later it was time to say goodbye and head back home. We left early in the morning, heading to Budapest to catch our flight back home. It was hard to leave, having adjusted to life in rural Romania. But school was starting, and we had new adventures ahead of us.
